Stephen A. Brandli

Steve is a graduate of the University of Washington School of Law in 2006 where he received High Honors, graduating in the top 5% of his class.  He received his Bachelor’s of Science Degree in 1985 from the University of California, Irvine.

Steve served two years for the San Juan County Prosecuting Attorney as a criminal Deputy Prosecutor.  Prior to that, Steve helped provide public defense for The Tulalip Tribes.  Steve has served as a law clerk for the State of Washington Court of Appeals in Tacoma and for the honorable Judge James K. Singleton of the Federal District Court of Alaska.  He also worked for a summer at Holland & Knight, a large legal firm that at the time had an office in Seattle.

Steve moved to the Northwest shortly after graduating from college.  He married his lovely wife, BJ, in 1995, and they have raised four children together.  Steve has always enjoyed volunteering his time, having served as a Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) where he represented children in dependency court proceedings, and as a volunteer income tax preparer for the VITA program of the IRS.  Steve also joined his wife to head the Washington State “wing” of Angel Flight West, a group of pilots that provides free non-emergency air transportation for medical patients.

Steve enjoys photography and electronics.  He hikes and backpacks, recently losing to his daughter in a race up Mount Constitution.  He is a licensed pilot, although he presently is not flying.  He is especially proud to be living on our beautiful islands.

BJ & Baby Zack

BJ’s interest in law began in high school. She lived in Juneau, Alaska, where she worked throughout her high school years for Ely, Guess, and Rudd Law Firm as an office assistant and court runner.  She left Alaska to pursue other opportunities after graduation.

After being very adventurous for several years, she started a family (4 girls!) and, at the same time, followed her heart into volunteerism, working for the Edmonds and Bellevue school districts, Washington Pilot’s Association, Children’s Hospital Emergency Room, and serving as the volunteer leader of the Washington “wing” of Angel Flight West.  Finally, she found her dream volunteer job: being foster mom of children newborn to five years.

BJ returned to her legal interests in 2002 when she obtained her Paralegal Certificates I and II. She followed those up with an Evidence Law class, a most enjoyable experience for her…and a great way to relate to her lawyer-husband!

Finally, she landed in Friday Harbor and is back working in a law office as a legal assistant at Brandli Law.
